Green Screen

Green Screen is an installation created with locally sourced, manufactured goods, for the exhibition Self-discipline & Speculation - The 3rd Beijing Film Academy International New Media Art Triennial in Beijing, China

Green Screen addresses the remediation of the natural environment by creating a mediation between what is actually real, and our expectation of real things presented onscreen. Small surveillance cameras feed into a microcontroller that dynamically switch between live feeds of fake plants to present them as 'real' plants, live onscreen. When viewers progress behind the projection screen, they are confronted with the manufactured disconnected micro environment containing the fake plants and fans simulating wind. This disconnection questions our everyday mediated world and how we easily misunderstand our surroundings without asking difficult questions.

Green Screen was restaged for an exhibition at Kohlman/Pryor gallery in Minneapolis in 2014.
